Making a Difference Together
An Informed Community Can Shape Its Future

Community Voices brings Fluvanna residents local news, public information, and ways to be heard.

We explain local issues, examine government decisions, and share community experiences so people can understand what is at stake and how to be heard.

Our goal: a community where residents’ knowledge, needs, and experiences help shape public decisions.

Inform

We provide accessible local news, resources, and information to help residents stay informed about issues affecting their community, environment, and future.

Connect

We create spaces for learning, collaboration, and community engagement that strengthen relationships, encourage shared understanding, and support sustainable local solutions.

Empower

We support inclusive community participation by helping residents engage in local decision-making, civic dialogue, and public processes that affect our quality of life.

About Us

Community Voices is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in Fluvanna County. We bring local knowledge, community history, and residents’ experiences into reporting and public conversations.

We help people understand government actions and their effects on our health, environment, and daily lives. Our work connects public records and local reporting with practical information about meetings, hearings, and ways to participate.

Residents deserve information they can use and a meaningful role in decisions. We make room for perspectives that are too often overlooked and help people bring their questions and concerns into public discussion.

Through community conversations and local partnerships, we connect people who want to learn from one another and work toward a healthier, more equitable future.

Mission

Our mission is to make local information accessible, connect residents, and strengthen their voice in public decisions.

Vision

We envision a healthy, equitable, and sustainable community whose decisions reflect the knowledge, experiences, and needs of its residents.

Understanding What’s Next for Fluvanna

State regulators now decide whether another massive gas plant moves forward in Fluvanna County.

Residents will have opportunities to:

● submit comments,

● attend hearings,

● request a stronger review, and

● demand accountability before permits are approved

Our Community Work

Our work helps residents find reliable information, question public decisions, and take part in community life. Public information should be understandable and available to everyone.

We bring residents’ experiences and local history into public discussion, with attention to people whose perspectives are often missing.

We focus on:

  • Providing clear, accessible, and community-centered local news and information;

  • Helping residents better understand local issues, public processes, and government actions;

  • Encouraging transparency, accessibility, and informed civic dialogue;

  • Highlighting underrepresented voices, lived experiences, and community history;

  • Supporting inclusive community participation and engagement; and

  • Building partnerships and local networks that strengthen community connection and collaboration.

We believe communities are better prepared to shape their future when people have equitable access to information, meaningful opportunities to participate, and spaces where their voices and experiences are valued.

Community Organizing

As a community organizing committee within Community Voices, Fluvanna Horizons Alliance brings residents together to protect public health, air, water, rural character, and quality of life.

The Alliance connects research and public information with community organizing, helping residents raise concerns, participate in hearings, and press for decisions that address the effects on their lives.

Local Government Transparency

Residents deserve open, transparent, and accountable government. Public decisions should be made in ways the community can see, understand, and participate in.

Understanding FOIA & Public Participation

Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act helps ensure the public can access government meetings, records, and decision-making processes.

Citizens should expect:

• public notice of meetings

• accessible public records

• opportunities for participation

Inclusive Community Voices

Everyone deserves access to information, meaningful participation, and the opportunity to be heard. Community Voices works to expand civic engagement and elevate the perspectives of those often underserved, overlooked, or underrepresented in local government, media, and public decision-making. By strengthening access, inclusion, and community participation, we help build a more informed, connected, and equitable community.
